People are often confused by, even when given the choice of shooting on bigger and ‘better’ cameras, I continue to use my prosumer gear, but this project is a perfect example. We were shooting in the middle of the forest for the best part of a week, with zero electricity. Armed with a few USB power banks I had enough power to keep my gear powered up the entire time without ever feeling like I had to hold back.
For me, when shooting in challenging locations and within hectic schedules, the last thing I want to be thinking about is gear and power. I also want my kit to be light and compact, so I never have to choose between lugging the drone up the mountain or an additional lens or two. With a better camera my footage could have slightly more dynamic range, clarity and better sound, however for me, it’s about being in the moment and being ready to capture what happens. When I’m on a shoot like this, my camera is never out of my hands and a heavier one would be on the floor or in a bag for a lot of the shots and moments I treasure the most.
